Bursaries to improve your French language or methodology skills are available for school teachers and teachers-on-call who are teaching for public or independent schools.
There are two sources of funding. One source is at the school or district level and the other one is at the Ministry of Education level. Most funding for French comes from Heritage Canada and is administered by the provinces and territories.
For short programs, night school or immersion weekends, you should check first with your Principal and ask if there is any uncommitted French funding available. Each school (through the district) receives a certain amount to support the teaching of French.
For Summer Immersion Programs, the principal source of funding comes from Teachers’ bursaries. Information and bursary application forms are generally available on the provincial or territorial Web sites.
Funding for some programs is administered directly by the institution. Examples for British Columbia teachers are the Institut de Français, UBC à Québec and the Maison Française at the University of Victoria.
