INSTITUT DE FRANÇAIS, UBC À QUÉBEC
July 5-23, 2010
Three-week immersion program for teachers!
This residential three-week (19 days) program is designed
specifically for teachers. Offered in a private college, le
Collège Mérici, situated in the historic
setting of les
Plaines d'Abraham, it gives
participants the opportunity to enjoy a park-like setting
while being just minutes away from la
vieille ville.
The college offers a relaxing environment in which to study
French while the city next door offers all the excitement
of a summer vacation. The 11-day Quebec
Summer Festival takes place during the Institute and
with the purchase of a reasonably-priced pass, one
can attend many wonderful spectacles.
It is a time when all of Quebec is celebrating la
joie de vivre and meeting and conversing with Québécoises
et Québécois is easy. Everyone shares in the appreciation
of singers, story tellers, musicians and street
performers.

Language classes are offered at all levels, from absolute
beginner to advanced. Course content is geared to the
needs of teachers
in the school system, from pre-school to grade 12.
Emphasis is on oral communication. Instructors use
the communicative approach and present aspects of the
culture of Quebec.
This program
is specifically designed for BC teachers but teachers
from other provinces or states and non-teachers are
welcome.
Funding for BC teachers is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage of the Government of Canada. Bursaries for BC teachers are administered by the French Centre, Continuing Studies, UBC, for the French Programs Unit of the BC Ministry of Education.
Teachers from other provinces should contact their own Ministries of Education regarding funding. Alberta teachers will find information on bursary funding on the Alberta page.
Information for non-teachers is available on the Non-teacher page.
A general description of the Institute is found under French
Institute. Additional pages describe a
typical institute schedule and accommodation at
Collège Mérici. A link to the Quebec
