Eligibility
BC teachers are eligible for a bursary if they:
1) are or will be involved in the teaching of French or in the supervision of a French program
2) are or will be working at a public or independant (group 1 or 2) school as a teacher, teacher-on-call, vice-principal or principal
3) are not native French speakers
Teachers who have previously attended this institute are not eligible to take it again for three years.
Administration
Bursaries for this program are administered by The University of British Columbia. BC teachers must fill out the application form below, have it signed by their School Principal, and return it to UBC.
BC Teachers-On-Call must fill out an additional form (BC TOC).
Applicants are accepted on a first-come first-served basis based on receipt of the application form and the $300 cheque.
The cost of the program is $2245.
Of this $2245, BC teachers pay a total of $995 (the $995 includes the $300 application fee). The balance of the program cost ($1250) is covered by a Department of Canadian Heritage bursary for BC teachers. The $1250 bursary is administered by UBC and BC teachers do not apply for it separately.
UBC will receive the $1250 bursary directly from the Ministry of Education on behalf of each BC teacher who has completed the course. UBC will not receive the $1250 for teachers who do not complete the course. In which case these teachers will be held responsible to pay the full cost ($2245) of the program.
Application
The application must be filled out in full by the applicant, signed by his/her Principal and mailed with a $300 cheque payable to the University of British Columbia. Applicants are accepted while there is space in the program, but are advised to mail their forms early. The $300 application fee is non-refundable once an applicant has been accepted into the program. If an applicant is not accepted, the $300 application fee is returned.
The non-refundable cheque of $300 is required with your preliminary application. The balance of fees is due by April 30 2012. Applicants withdrawing before April 29 will only be responsible for the $300 non-refundable application fee. Applicants withdrawing between April 30 and June 1 will be charged a $300 administrative fee in addition to the $300 non-refundable application fee. There is no refund on cancellation after June 1, 2012.
Teachers may print out the application form below. As you will need the signature of your school Principal, you cannot register by phone, fax or e-mail.
