UBC EMPLOYEES WHO ARE MEMBERS OF CUPE OR AAPS
CUPE and AAPS members qualify for waivers that can be used to pay the tuition for any language program. Courses can be taken on or off campus.
Why not spend part of your summer vacation studying French at UBC’s Institute in Quebec City?
You can improve your language skills (and advance your career) by day, and enjoy the Quebec City Summer Festival in the evenings and on weekends. Tuition is $1700. Accommodation and some meals are $500.
Unless you have already used some of it, your waiver allowance will cover the tuition. (As of 2009, this amount was $1771.80, based on 12 credits at $147.65 per credit.)
Use airmiles for airfare and your tax deductible tuition, education and textbook amounts towards room and board and you have a great inexpensive summer experience. UBC may limit the number of employees accepted each year in this program, so if you are interested, you should apply early.

Taking daytime or evening courses is hard to fit into a busy schedule. Why not spend three weeks just learning French and discovering Quebec?
You cannot use your tuition waivers (they only apply to UBC credit courses) but you can use the Professional Development Reimbursement Fund. Depending on the balance in your fund and your eligibility for advances, you may be able to cover the full extent of your participation in the Institute (plus enjoy additional tax credits!)
